Our Date Night Favourites

February 4, 2014

A few people have asked me whether I could share favourite places to eat and things to do for our date nights and with Valentine's Day just around the corner, I thought why not!

Warning - Johan and I are creatures of habit and we really really REALLY like to eat, watch movies, lounge around and not do much on our dates so don't be surprised if you think we are so boring when you see our list!

Best. Tacos. EVER.

Even better is that they're $3 each on Tuesday nights. Even greater than all that is their awesome chilli fries. Oh and the Ciderlicious cocktail! Ok, so do you see why we just love this place? If you're after a quick, cheap and never-failing-delicious meal, this is the place.

2 // The Baron, Castle Hill

Without a doubt, we always end up at The Baron most weekend mornings.  Great coffee, great service, great atmosphere, great food, great value and we don't have to travel to the CITY for food? Yep - tick, tick, tick and tick!

3 // Dendy & Dessert at The Pie Tin

This is one of our all time favourite "date night combo". Dendy have the finest selection of movies and The Pie Tin have the best selection of PIES (sweet & savoury) and they seriously go hand in hand. My recommendation - pick a foreign film and for pie, a lemon brûlée. Bliss!

p.s - if you have a phone account with Optus, you can get $10 (I repeat, TEN DOLLARS) tickets as part of their Rewards program.

4 // MCA & The Rocks

Give us a sunny day date and we'll end up at The Rocks. First stop, a tour around MCA to see the latest exhibitions and next stop, coffee & macarons at Baroque Pattiserie. If you're out here on the weekend, you'll most likely run into some sort of markets, and of course, a plethora of great pubs and bars to quench your thirst.

5 // Magnation

We could spend HOURS perusing through every magazine we wish we could buy but we don't because they are expensive (we've seemed to swap buying magazines for nappies these days). C'mon, don't look at me like that - you've all done the same. Thanks Magnation for letting tight asses like us feel rich enough to look through your collection of best magazines!

6 // The Boathouse, Palm Beach

The most serene, tranquil place in Sydney. Hands down our favourite spot for a good long hearty breakfast and a much needed catch up. Something about this place gets us relaxed and feeling like we could just sit & chat all day long. I personally think there's something about being by the seaside that instills a sense of peace in our hearts.

For a more adventure filled date, try some paddle boarding just around the corner!

What are your favourite date night hot spots around Sydney (or wherever you are)? Do you guys have any traditions, favourite foods to eat etc etc?

  1. I love your list - you have picked just about all my favourite spots in Sydney. Will and I have this daggy Thursday night ritual where we walk down Oxford Street from Surry Hills and end up at the Westfield Sydney food court for snags and frozen yoghurt. Or Miss Chu's then matcha cones if we're feeling fancy :)

Our favourite spots are El Loco for tacos (have you tried them???) then Gelato Messina for best gelatos in town. Pretty much anywhere in Surry Hills or Darlinghurst are good finds!

  3. Great picks!!! I love all those places but never even occurred to me I could do dates there!! I always think that dates you have to go super formal and sit down for a proper meal but you've inspired me to just go casual and a bit more relaxed!!

    1. The more casual the better, we say! Although, formal sit down dinners are always lovely too and we always save them for a more special occasion like anniversaries, birthdays etc.
